On World Refugee Day, the UN commemorates the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees. In the UK, Refugee Week is a wide-ranging programme of events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the country. 

As part of this series of events, the Bank invited alumni to join us in a screening of the award-winning new British fiction feature film, In Another Life, which tells the compelling tale of Adnan and Yousef, two refugees trapped in the Calais “jungle”. This is a swiftly-paced and gripping re-creation of their struggles, woven from personal, true stories of flight, pursuit and optimism among desperate people whose lives have reached a standstill. In addition, we will show a short documentary on the Bank’s refugee support work in Jordan. 

After the screening, there was a discussion with actors from the film, as well as with our special guest, Lord Dubs who, in 2016, sponsored an amendment to the UK Immigration Act to offer unaccompanied refugee children safe passage to Britain.
