The Economics of the Middle East and North Africa

The EBRD’s Office of the Chief Economist co-organised its first annual EBRD Research Symposium on ‘The Economics of the Middle East and North Africa’, together with the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the journal Economics of Transition.
The symposium was held on 02-03 June 2016 at the EBRD’s headquarters in London.
In light of the increasing importance of the region (Southern and Eastern Mediterranean - SEMED) for Europe and the EBRD, and the dramatic transformations in many SEMED countries, the Symposium brought together leading researchers to present their recent work.
Three keynote speakers include:
The programme featured eight papers, covering topics including job creation, migration, trade, political connections and the role of religion.
