Welcoming remarks: Enzo Quattrociocche, EBRD Secretary General
Keynote address by EBRD alumnus, the Rt Hon Andrew Tyrie (’97), Chairman, Treasury Select Committee, UK Parliament, followed by a discussion moderated by Jonathan Charles, EBRD Managing Director of Communications.
Following his work as a senior economist at the Bank, Andrew Tyrie has had an impressive career. He shared some of his memories from the Bank and his perspective on a number of key issues of current interest. Among his many responsibilities and assignments since 1997, Andrew has been a member of numerous Parliamentary select committees. As Chairman of the Treasury Select Committee, Andrew has been one of the most persistent examiners of the banking industry after the 2008 financial crisis. The Committee has regularly questioned government ministers, regulators and economists, including the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Governor of the Bank of England and bank CEOs. In 2013, The Independent referred to Andrew as “the most powerful backbencher in the House of Commons”. Andrew has written extensively on a wide range of subjects, including financial regulation, the economy, constitutional change and, most recently, Brexit.
