The New Safe Confinement, the structure that the New York Times called “an extraordinary feat of human ingenuity”, is EBRD’s largest and lengthiest project.
This gripping, hour-long BBC documentary follows the construction of the 36,000-tonne steel structure which late last year entombed the ruins of the nuclear power plant destroyed in the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
Alumni joined for a viewing of this extraordinary film at EBRD's London headquarters, followed by what promises to be a fascinating discussion. After the film, director Martin Gorst was joined on stage for a discussion with Nicolas Caille, project director at Novarka, the French construction consortium responsible for completing the project, and Vince Novak, Director of the EBRD Nuclear Safety Department.
