Feature film based on a Turgenev play
Based on Ivan Turgenev’s 19th century play A Month in the Country, the Russian-language dramatic film “Two Women” was described by Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian as “the tale of a gentle, cerebral man who has fallen hopelessly for a married woman”; Timeout judged it “a superb performance by Ralph Fiennes speaking Russian”. The film is a co-production (Russia / UK / France / Latvia) and also stars Sylvie Testud.
Alumni were invited to join us on 23 February at EBRD headquarters for a screening of this film, as well as a discussion of Anglo-Russian collaboration in making and promoting cinema. Director Vera Glagoleva was joined on stage by Lubov Balagova, President of the Sochi International Film Awards, as well as film-maker Mohy Quandour.
